About the Author
Stephanie Durruthy, MD, is a board certified psychiatrist in private practice. Dr. Durruthy has held clinical positions at the US Public Health Service, Walter Reed Army Medical Center, and Johns Hopkins Bayview Psychiatric Day Hospital where she was a clinical director. She is currently on staff at Howard County General Hospital, an affiliate of Johns Hopkins Health Care System. She is a frequent lecturer on women’s health issues.
After receiving her undergraduate degree at Cornell University in biological sciences, she earned her medical degree at Hahnemann Medical College in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Dr. Durruthy subsequently completed her psychiatric residency training at St. Vincent’s Hospital and Medical Center in New York City. She completed a fellowship in Psychiatric Administration at the University of Maryland.
As a member of the American Psychiatric Association, she served on the Committee of Women, a committee organized to promote women’s health issues. She is a member of the Association of Women Psychiatrists and the North American Menopause Society. In addition, Dr. Durruthy writes the Women’s Corner column for the NAMI (National Association for Mental Illness) Newsletter of Howard County, Maryland.
As a psychiatrist, mother and woman, Dr. Durruthy is a strong voice on behalf of women and their mental health.
